Top Ten Movies Of All-Time

Yes, it is another list of top ten movies of all-time. No panel voting, no rating system, and box office success was not taken into account. It is merely a list of my top ten all-time favorite movies.

10. A Nightmare On Elm Street


Released in 1984. Yes, the original not the remake from 2010 which just didn't really make it in my opinion. Freddy Krueger attacks some high school kids in their dreams. And one by one he kills them. That is basically the film in a nutshell. It has a lot more than that; and who could forget Freddy's humorous sayings as he appears in the kids dreams? If you watch just one 'Nightmare' film make it the original; you won't be disappointed.

Quote: "One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, eight, gonna stay up late. Nine, ten, never sleep again."

09. Superman III


Released in 1983. Possibly the best Superman film ever. Not just because it has Christopher Reeve as Superman but also because Richard Pryor steals the film. Pryor plays Gus Gorman, a computer genius, that creates kryptonite; but laced with tar. This doesn't kill Superman it merely makes him an evil version of himself. Eventually 'Evil' Superman must do battle with 'Good' Clark Kent.

Quote: "I don't want to go to jail because there are robbers and rapers and rapers who rape robbers."

08. How To Train Your Dragon


Released in 2010. It is an animated film. It is meant for kids. But it is just a good movie. Hiccup is a viking; and as such is meant to train to kill dragons. But a special dragon, a Night Fury, becomes his friend. Hiccup is then torn between his friend and doing what a viking is supposed to do.

Quote: "Don't worry. You're small and you're weak. That'll make you less of a target! They'll see you as sick or insane and go after the more viking-like teens instead."

07. The Escapist


Released in 2008. Frank Perry is a convict fourteen years into a life sentence without parole. When his daughter falls ill, he is determined to make peace with her before it's too late. He develops an escape plan, and recruits a band of escapists - misfits with unique skills required for their daring plan and united by desire to escape their hell hole of an existence.

Quote: "You know the one thing you've got going for you, Frank? You're too old to die young."

06. Ferris Bueller's Day Off


Released in 1986. Anyone who has not seen this movie has been living under a rock for the last 26 years. Pretty much everyone knows this movie.  So what is so great about it? It is what everybody dreamed of doing. Taking a day off school, living out a few dreams, and getting away with it. All the characters are perfectly casted with Jeffrey Jones playing the Principal to a tee.

Quote: "Um, he's sick. My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious."

05. Antitrust


Released in 2001. It is kind of Open Source meets Microsoft. The big corporation is stealing programs and then killing the programmers. There is a lot more to the film than that but to mention too much gives the plot of the film away. Basically if you want to see the 'little man' take on, and beat, the corporation this film is one to watch.

Quote: "It's just a matter of time before someone borrows your technology, improves it and makes a billion dollars on it."

04. Green Street Hooligans


Released in 2005, it tells the story of the Green Street Elite firm; supporters of West Ham United that like to fight with other firms from other football clubs. Some say that the English take their team support too far when they fight - it is just the way it is. The film shows the whole 'dirty' side of football violence and how it effects not just the members of the firm but their families too. A great soundtrack throughout the film; with the excellent "One Blood" by Terence Jay used at the conclusion. Strong language throughout; but it is not out of place in the environment.

Quote: "You know the best part? It isn't knowing that your friends have your back. It's knowing that you have your friends' back."

03. The Boondock Saints


Released in 1999. Starring Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery as two brothers. Involved in a bar fight the brothers kill a couple of Russian mafia members. Turning themselves in to the local police they are released as heroes because it was self defense. They see this as a calling; as if it was their mission from God. All of the additional characters make the whole movie; and there is something scary about Billy Connolly's portrayal of Il Deuce which makes you think Billy could have gone either way in life because he plays the part too well.

Quote: "The question is not how far. The question is, do you possess the constitution, the depth of faith, to go as far is as needed?"

02. The Matrix


The first part of the Matrix trilogy; originally released in 1999. So, what is the Matrix? You have to watch all three parts just to begin to answer that one. The whole idea of the Matrix is what made the film. We are all living in a simulation and reality, which we don't really know exists, is pretty much over. The storyline is a lot deeper than that. But you have amazing fight scenes and some of the best special effects rolled into one movie. And after you have watched all three parts (The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions) you can go back and watch The Matrix and it starts to make a little bit more sense.

Quote: "Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself."

01. Seven Brides For Seven Brothers


Originally released in 1954, many years before I was born, but it is my all-time favorite film. Not because the film is that good; although it is alright. It is just one of those films I grew up watching every single year. Sometimes twice a year (Christmas for definite but sometimes Christmas and Easter). The oldest of seven brothers, Adam, living together, goes to town and marries; which starts the whole chain of events. Molly, the wife of Adam, teaches the 6 younger brothers to be gentlemen and at the same time teaches her new husband what it really means to be a husband. Yes it is a musical. Yes it is old. But no matter how old it is it is still a film you can watch over and over again.

Quote: "There were no F names in the Bible so Ma named him Frankincense because he smelled so sweet."

It is not a deep, meaningful, list it is merely my own personal top ten movies of all time. I'm sure everyone has their own favorites.
